DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES

The Holden Arboretum is searching
for a Director of Human Resources to lead the organization’s
human resource function.
The Holden Arboretum is one of the largest
natural arboreta in the United States. Established in 1931 on
100 acres of land, Holden manages more than 3,500 acres, with
2,900 acres of natural areas and 600 acres of horticultural
collections and displays, registering more than 6,000 species
of trees and plants. Holden connects people with nature for
inspiration and enjoyment, fosters learning and promotes
conservation.
The Director of Human Resources directs all
strategic and functional human resources initiatives and
programs and serves as a strategic member of the Executive
Leadership Team. Responsibilities include overseeing core
human resources functions, including recruitment and
employment, training and development, healthcare and wellness,
HRIS administration, compensation programs, and safety. The
Director of Human Resources will originate and lead the
execution of human resources practices and objectives that
provide a high performance culture emphasizing quality,
productivity and standards; goal attainment; and the
recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.
Responsibilities include overseeing all organizational
development strategies and implementing processes for manpower
planning, as well as serving as lead in organizational
succession planning. Responsibilities also include leading the
organization’s compensation planning and management processes;
providing strategic direction in organizational wellness
initiatives and healthcare cost containment; and leading and
managing other human resource functions including Holden’s
internship and volunteer programs, and Holden’s safety and
security/police team.
The successful candidate must have a
bachelor’s degree in human resources administration, human
resources management, organizational development, business
administration, business management, or a related field of
study. An active human resource certification is a plus but
not required. The successful candidate must have five (5)
years of progressive experience in human resources and must
have a thorough working knowledge of core human resources
functions. Candidates must have a keen awareness of the
evolving culture of an organization, with the ability to
design strategies to reinforce what is working and improve
areas of concerns. Candidates must have excellent
communication and interpersonal skills and must be
results-oriented with a strong customer service orientation
and the ability to operate at all levels of the organization.
Four (4) years of supervisory experience is required.

Position Description:

The HR
Generalist will work directly with business units to develop
effective strategies and proactively manage HR
issues/situations. In addition the generalist will act as a
liaison between business unit leadership and HR process
leaders for all HR needs.

Assists HR
Manager on employee relations issues.
·
Assists HR
Manager with change management and other HR initiatives in
assigned business units.
·
Provides
employee relations assistance to employees and managers.
·
Assist in
developing and revising policies and procedures and forms to
reflect the changing work environment .
·
Training &
development of managers & supervisors.
Position Requirements:
·
Minimum
three (3) years Human Resources Generalist experience is
required.
·
An active
working knowledge of current employment law required.
·
Must be
able to work independently in a fast paced organization and
adapt to changing priorities.
·
Demonstrated ability to interact positively with all levels of
hospital staff, management, patients and family members.
·
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and excellent
communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as,
exhibiting strong organizational skills and work ethic.
·
Proficient
computer skills, including MS Office and HRIS (Oracle
preferred) product.
·
Familiar
with operation of standard office equipment.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Human
Resources Management or related field.
