| Q. |
What is my log-in username and
password? |
| |
|
| A. |
Your username is your last name. The only
exception would be if more than one chapter member has
the same last name, in which case the usernames would be
the first initial and the last name (ie. John Smith=jsmith). Your
password is your SHRM member number, excluding any
leading zeros. If you have not yet received your
member number, your password will be the phone number that we have in our
database minus the area code. When you
do receive your member number, please let us know so
that we can update our database with your new
password.

to include your phone number and email address so that
we may contact you.

|
| Q. |
Why don't I get my mailings from the
local chapter? |
| |
|
| A. |
That could be a result of two reasons:
|
| |
a.) Have you moved?
You need to keep us informed. Mail
address changes to:
LGASHRM
P.O. Box 5125,
Mentor, Ohio 44061
or E-Mail us at
info@lgashrm.org
or simply log-in to
the Member's section and fill out our form
on-line!
You ALSO must notify National SHRM of
changes of name, address or credentials. You can either
call or write to:
Society for Human Resource
Management
1800 Duke Street,
Alexandria, Virginia 22314 USA
PHONE: (703) 548-3440
FAX: (703) 836-0367
The fastest and easiest is to email the necessary corrections
to SHRM@shrm.org
|
| |
b.) Has your membership expired?
On a quarterly basis the board receives a listing
from National SHRM. This listing indicates who
has remained and/or newly joined our chapter.
This listing is then compared to our most recent membership
roster, the results sometime indicate that members
no longer belong to our chapter because their membership
has lapsed and they failed to renew.
Remember, you typically receive a renewal notice from
SHRM two months before it actually expires.
When renewing you can respond via mail or renew via
internet at
http://www.shrm.org/membercenter/.
|
| |
|
| Q. |
Why aren't I getting my magazines
and newsletters from National SHRM? |
| |
|
| A. |
If you move or change addresses, this information
must be communicated to National SHRM. You can either
call or write to the Society for Human Resource Management
at the address above. |
| |
|
| Q. |
What does primary chapter mean? |
| |
|
| A. |
When an individual joins SHRM or renews their membership,
they have an opportunity to designate a primary chapter.
The chapter then receives "credit" for
the member for both affiliation and financial support.
This signature from you is important to our chapters
financial existence, therefore if you joined SHRM or
renewed your membership via National and not through
the chapter directly, you could become a "MEMBER-AT-LARGE".
This essentially means that you belong to No particular
chapter, hence no local newsletters or communication
happens.
Typically, local chapter designations don't need to
be renewed each year, but it's wise to always check
with the chapter Administrator (info@lgashrm.org).
|
| |
|
| Q. |
What if I want to belong to two chapters
at the same time? |
| |
|
| A. |
There are advantages to this, particularly
since our chapter is nestled between several other chapters
of SHRM.
The ramifications of this however could be that we loose
you as a primary member. For example, if you choose to
join another local chapter, their application will ask
you for your national membership #. You may be sent a
Primary Designation Form, this does NOT need to be completed.
Be aware, if you complete such form, you now become their
primary chapter member and Lake/Geauga no longer receives
financial support. |
| |
|
| Q. |
What does 100% chapter mean? |
| |
|
| A. |
Lake / Geauga Area chapter is proud to be classified
as a 100% chapter as designated by the guidelines of
National SHRM in Alexandria, VA.
This title is only obtained when all members are both
a member of National SHRM and they designate Lake/Geauga
as their primary chapter. Not all chapters operate that
way, it is feasible to be a chapter member without belonging
to National.
Our philosophy is to provide our members the best benefits
and tools possible in HR and this is best achieved via
a dual membership through National and your local chapter.
Also, if you haven't received your 100% chapter designation
pin, please see a board member for yours at the next
chapter meeting.

|
| Q. |
Why should I join SHRM? |
| |
|
| A. |
Knowledge - Recognition - Networking |
| |
- Knowledge - it's important to stay on top
of professional trends. HR Magazine, HR News
, Mosiacs , Workplace Visions and SHRM Legal
Report are worth the cost of membership alone.
- Professional Recognition - By joining
SHRM, members demonstrate their commitment to the
professional and their own continuing professional
development.
- Networking - Both nationally and locally,
SHRM provides you the opportunity to seek advice,
share ideas, compare notes and solve problems.
